When it comes to building software startups and getting acquired by a global tech giant, there are not many in the world that have done this consistently and as successfully as Victor Shaburov. Based in Gibraltar with his family since April 2019, Victor went from being a schoolboy keen on mathematics from a village near Yekaterinburg to the technical director of the company Snapchat. He is an entrepreneur, an investor and one of the founders of Looksery Inc., Handster Inc. and SPB Software.

We are extremely privileged to be hosting Victor for a Fireside Chat on 11th November at Sapphire Bar, Sunborn Yacht Hotel to hear his story. From a boy who loved learning English, mathematics and sports with a competitive spirit to his success building software startups for massive audiences.

Victor is the founder and CEO of AI Factory and previously founded facial-recognition startup Looksery — which Snapchat acquired in 2015. Snap used the Looksery technology to power its animated-selfie Lenses launched that year; he served as Snap’s director of engineering for three years following that deal, before departing in 2018 to form AI Factory. Prior to Looksery, he founded Handster, a mobile application store company that was acquired by Opera Software in 2011.

During the height of the pandemic Victor and his wife Elena donated £65,000.00 to the Gibraltar Health Authority. They actively support Programming contests in Eastern Europe (such as Codeforces, ACM ICPC and Open Class Programming Competition) as well as math schools and universities privately or through his Botan Investments foundation.

First established in 2013, The EV Foundation’s mission is to support local and nearby Spanish disadvantaged families whose household income is insufficient to afford basic necessities such as food, clothing, payment of utilities and rent, furniture for the home, electrodomestics, amongst many other needs.

They act as an advocate for these vulnerable families and individuals so they can thrive with the right support by empowering them to become successful.
