OME’s Highlights: Startup Grind Gibraltar, the University of Gibraltar, AmCham, and More

We’re celebrating a busy start to Q4 as autumn brings all the delights of business back in full swing after the summer holidays. Having organised over 30 consecutive events for Startup Grind Gibraltar, here are some highlights.

Gibraltar is as tech-savvy and innovation-driven as ever, highlighted by our events for Startup Grind Gibraltar and the new Gibraltar Digital Skills Foundation.

In business, whether as a founder or a professional, it’s all in who you know and what you can do. Here are the latest highlights, in case you missed it. Stay on top of the corporate events scene by subscribing to the OME newsletter.

Startup Grind Gibraltar – “From Scale to Sale”

It’s always a pleasure to support the startup scene in Gibraltar and last month’s talk from Peter Howitt and Fiona Young celebrated Ramparts sale to join Ince Gordon Dadds. Ramparts, founded by Peter in 2012, focused on emerging legal and regulatory work to support Gibraltar’s increasingly tech-driven jurisdiction. Their innovative approach and core values built a team and quality of service that Ince couldn’t resist. Peter will continue to lead the office locally. Learn more about the journey and what made Ince choose Gibraltar, here.

We also presented the new “5 Min Feature” with representatives from the University of Gibraltar sharing updates and their latest opportunities, including the upcoming Professional Certificate of Competence in Blockchain & Smart Contracts. The course provides the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge from global experts in the field. Gibraltar packs a tech-savvy punch on a global scale and it’s exciting to see the University continuing the trend with new technologies.

As always, many thanks to our sponsors, partners, speakers and all who attended.

Later in October, we’re celebrating Heroku Special Product and Engineering Month with Startup Grind Gibraltar to include chats, snacks, beer, and prizes with Gib Devs. Learn more and register for free, here.

Bridging the Skills Gap

Earlier this year, in April, Stewart Harrison launched The Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award (iDEA) at a Startup Grind Gibraltar event we organised. His international programme aims to address the digital skills gap, that aspires to be a digital and enterprise equivalent of The Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Stewart is bringing this and other initiatives into a charity: Gibraltar Digital Skills Foundation. This aims to close the digital skills gap and engage young learners as well as train adults. It’s an exciting opportunity for the next generation of Gibraltar’s workforce to embrace the latest innovations in tech!

We’re thrilled to be working with Stewart, and if you’re interested in contributing to the Foundation you can contact us. Learn more about Stewart’s work and the Gibraltar Digital Skills Foundation here.

Giving Thanks with AmCham Gibraltar

To celebrate the year and give thanks, the Gibraltar-American Chamber of Commerce hosts a Thanksgiving Charity Gala every year. This year’s dinner is in support of the Gibraltar Alzheimer’s & Dementia Society. A ticket includes a delicious three-course dinner and dancing, and there will be a charity auction on the night as well. The Gala will take place at Sunborn Gibraltar on Thursday the 21st of November at 19:30pm. Contact us for more information and to book.
